Boettcher joined the Middlebury College coaching staff in 1998, serving as head coach of the softball and women's soccer teams. She played both sports at the University of Vermont, serving as the soccer team's captain.

Boettcher began her collegiate coaching career at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine where she served as an assistant softball coach for eight years. While there, she also initiated the first varsity women's soccer team.

Following a successful career at Bates, Boettcher became the first varsity women's soccer coach at Division I Davidson College in North Carolina. Following two years at Davidson, she returned to Maine to serve as the head coach at the University of Maine in Orono.

Following a three-year stay at Maine, Boettcher taught and coached for a year at Mt. Ararat School in Maine. At Mt. Ararat she served as the junior varsity baseball coach and the women's soccer coach. Next she spent two years teaching and coaching at Saco Middle School in Maine. She coached softball, while heading the varsity soccer program at nearby Massabesic High School. At Saco, her teams were known for their aggressive baserunning and impressive pitchers.

Boettcher holds the Amateur Softball Association silver level softball coaching certificate, and is also an established umpire. She has been honored to work three A.S.A. regional fast and slow pitch tournaments. She currently serves on the NCAA Softball Rules Committee.

Boettcher is a graduate of Burlington (Vermont) High school where she played on the state champion basketball team, played softball and ran cross country. She was also honored with the UVM Award for Outstanding Achievement in Physical Education. She also holds a degree in business and a Masters in physical education
