Jeffords leaving Republican Party
Unhappy and disagreeing with the contemporary statutes of the Republican party.
In particular, Jim disagreed with the Republican budget proposal, and overall stance on the environment.
On May 24, 2001, Jim left the Republican Party, becoming the only Independent Senator.
Jim is Independent by title, but votes with the Democrats.
