WOMEN'S SOCIAL ROLE OCCUPANCY AND QUALITY AS PREDICTORS OF CHANGES IN ALCOHOL USE ACROSS TIME Wanda M. Arce-Quiñones and Carlos J. Vélez-Blasini (Middlebury College) Presented at the Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association. Boston, MA, February 27-March 1, 1998. The present investigation longitudinally examined the importance of social roles in explaining women's drinking. Family and employment role occupancy and satisfaction measures were used in hierarchical multiple regressions to predict drinking. Role satisfaction was found to negatively relate to drinking. Time-related changes in employment satisfaction were negatively related to time-related changes in alcohol consumption. The relationship between time-related changes in employment satisfaction and drinking was moderated by marital and parental role occupancy. |
