Small Projects and
Everyday Actions (a.k.a. Engagement for Slackers)
Maybe this semester you have tons of time, money, and energy
to devote to a particular cause.
Or
maybe your course load is too hard, your family commitments
too great, or your job hours too long.
Never fear
this section is full of ideas about how to impact
the world
in easy ways - through small projects and everyday actions.
I. Projects
that Require Minimum Effort
These project ideas require minimum time commitment but can provide
significant impact. Taken from the National Campus Compact student
website, the how-to of some of these appear elsewhere in this manual.
II. Everyday
Actions
This section, based on the Middlebury College Activist Resource Guide,
has tips on how college students can live a more sustainable lifestyle.
Most of these are applicable to everyone, though some are more so
for students on traditional campuses. The best thing is that these
ideas are simple and easy enough to become habit over a lifetime.
III. Resources
on Sustainable Living and Voluntary Simplicity
A growing topic of conversation both in Vermont, other rural areas,
and all over the developed world is the idea of "sustainable
living." Sustainable living is living in such a way that the
negative impact of one's lifestyle on the environment and society
is minimized. The other essential component to this movement is discovering
simple ways to make one's everyday life more fulfilling. Consider
the ideas on these websites, google others, and create some of your
own!
