Organizing and Advocacy
-
The Next Level
You want to take it past the one-time event. You want everyone's
attention. You want long-term social change.
You want to organize!
You'll need to (among many other things) make a plan, recruit participants,
work with the media, hold petition drives, write letters, educate,
and inspire.
Instead of including ALL the great organizing manuals out there
this
section offers one and a resource list for the rest. Find one that
best fits your situation
then head to the web or the phone and
get a copy (or two) for your campus!
I. Just Add Consciousness; A Guide to Social Activism
Oxfam America, Campus Outreach Opportunity League, Bread for the World
We chose this guide because it was compiled by some of the most respected
names in student activism. It isn't very long but it is chock full
of links to other resources and gives you a basic overview before
delving into some of the more complicated guides.
II. Guides
for Transforming the World
This section provides you with information about organizing guides
from some of the largest and most successful student campaigns in
the country. They cover topics from working with the media to writing
letters to the editor to lobbying Congress. The list included here
is by no means exhaustive, but the hope is that these guides will
inspire new action and help you plan well-organized, successful campaigns.
And, in the process, you just might change the world.
