Service-learning is all about partnerships between campuses and the community.

The focus on student success is driving changes in higher education toward high impact educational practices such as service-learning. Meanwhile, community members are looking to connect with campuses to enhance their organizations. Higher education is a system, when navigated well, can open up a flood of college resources into the community. How do you develop a successful campus-community partnership? 5 Things You Can Do to Strengthen a Campus Relationship

  1. Identify and stop by or call the specific college office that handles outreach.
  2. Check in with the college in the beginning of the academic year to make sure contact names and information are current for both your organization and your college contacts.
  3. Identify specific needs for your organization and how the college can fill those needs (volunteers, service-learning courses, event support, special projects...)
  4. Post a volunteer information page on your website to help college staff, students, and faculty contact your organization and understand you needs.
  5. Make sure you have a current, interesting, and inviting website to attract involvement!
