Vermont Campus Compact
Member Benefits

VCC works to create strong networks among the state's colleges and universities so that individual faculty, administrators, staff, and students can exchange ideas and resources regarding service-learning programs, student leadership and volunteer programs, and other forms of campus civic engagement.

All VCC members are a part of national Campus Compact. Combined membership benefits include:

Financial Support

VCC offers member campuses competitive grant and other funding opportunities to foster innovative service-learning programs and campus/community collaborations, through such resources as AmeriCorps*VISTA, Learn & Serve, and national Campus Compact

Training and Technical Assistance

VCC provides faculty, staff, students, and community partners with institutes, training conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities. Member campuses are also able to network with each other, sharing information on "best practices" and developing strategies for the design, development, and implementation of campus-specific service programs.

Resources and Publications

Publications on new and existing community service learning initiatives, current research, syllabi, curricula, and examples of best practices are maintained in our office for use by member institutions. In addition, VCC maintains a website which posts event information, program information, and links to other organizations in the service network. VCC members are also invited to subscribe to the VCC Network Listserv which enable members to share ideas, resources, and information with campuses across the state.

Provide Timely, Vital Information to Our Members

Campus Compact compiles highly sought-after statistics and in-depth analyses on the impact of its work on member campuses, and on the communities in which it serves. Campus Compact also produces a multitude of widely read publications, featuring current issues and trends, research findings, faculty curricula, and innovative model service programs.

Provide Funding and Awards for Outstanding Service Work

Each year, Campus Compact honors outstanding faculty and students with the prestigious Howard R. Swearer Student Humanitarian Award and the Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service Learning. The former is given to students for creating and participating in vital public and community service initiatives; the latter, to faculty for integrating community service into their own academic curriculum as well as into the curriculum throughout their campuses. Award recipients also receive funding to help support their continued efforts to address societal needs.

Organize Conferences, Forums, and Meetings

Member presidents, faculty, and community service directors have many opportunities to participate in conferences, workshops, forums, and meetings sponsored by Campus Compact. These gatherings provide a unique setting for exchanging ideas, expertise, and successful program models to enhance the quality of life on our campuses and in our communities.
