Bird banding results

Species by Year: Birds banded at the Otter Creek Banding Station (Site A) by Steve Trombulak and the 
students in BI 302 (Middlebury College) during September and October. Excluded are recaptures and birds 
escaping before being banded.

a: Netting done prior to 1993 was done in slightly different locations with different effort and is not 
comparable to 1993 or later; therefore, these data are not included.

b: The two woodcock caught in 2000 were not banded because we did not have the correct band size, but 
they are recorded here because we could otherwise have banded them.

c: Includes only those days in which at least one bird was banded.

d: 1993-1998: (days netted) x (average hours per day) x (average number of nets run); from 2000: direct 
count of net-hour-days.

e: (total birds banded) / (total net effort).

f: Banding during this year was carried out by a different person (my sabbatical replacement); therefore, 
the results for 1994 may or may not be comparable to other years due to differences in technique and 
experience.
