The SGA Finance Committee, a standing committee of the Middlebury College Student Government Association, is responsible for serving the financial needs of recognized student organizations and the needs of the SGA in its management of the Student Activities Fund. Its responsibility is threefold.
First, the SGA Finance Committee allocates the Student Activities Fund as a primary funding source for student organizations. Initial allocations are made following budget consultations with every student organization; subsequent withdrawals from individual budgets for specified events are approved throughout the academic year as well as the summer in accordance with SGA Finance Committee guidelines. Summer requests are subject to approval by the incoming Chair of the Committee. Executive approval power is extended only to the Chair during the period of the summer recess.
Second, the Committee uses its expertise in an advisory role to student organizations and initiatives, providing guidance and information to students.
Finally, the Committee offers outreach programs, constituting meetings and information sessions, in an effort to orient new leaders and interested parties with the funding process and create an open and supportive financial environment.
These guidelines were created to act as a funding guide for both student organizations and the SGA Finance Committee; guidelines are constantly being updated and changed, often reflecting past experiences and suggestions.
