Board members for 2007-2008 wanted

Message from Newman Club president Marie Lucci ’08.5:

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.

Therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."

--Matthew 9:37-38

Dear Newman Club,

Election time for next year’s Newman Club Leadership Board is almost here.  If you’re interested in being on Board, we need to hear from you by this Friday April 13.  Even if you haven’t been very involved with Newman this year, I encourage you to read on and see what we’re looking for.

Whatever Catholic background you’re coming from, if you want something from the Catholic community here at Midd, we want and need you to be a part of it.  It’s okay if you don’t feel “qualified” for something.  What we are looking for, above all, is a desire to be part of Newman – there is a place for you and your talents (and whatever time you can give).  I encourage you, therefore, even before you even read the descriptions of the board positions, check out the Prayer of Oscar Romero.  We pray it every time we gather as a Leadership Team.  I think it gets to the true spirit of what it means to serve and to lead.

The Newman Club relies on students to step forward, like the above quote from the Gospel of Matthew, to serve on Board.  Are you being called?  As you read the prayer and the descriptions of the Board/Team positions, pay attention to what energizes you and what speaks to your heart.   Then we hope that you RESPOND to the call.

descriptions

Our Leadership Board is broken down into a the positions of  president and of a series of Team Leaders.  Team Leaders head up their respective area with the help of non-board students who are on their “team.”  ( and there is certainly some fluidity among the team breakdowns).  Board members commit for the 07-08 year and are expected to attend weekly meetings.  Even if you don’t think you can commit to holding a Board position (Team Leader), you are still very much needed and wanted as part of a “team.”  Michelle Personick will be president for next year, but we need you to fill in the other board positions.  Here is what we are looking for:

Team Leader of Finance:  Next to the president, the treasurer is possibly the most essential position in Newman because, as we know, it usually takes money to make things happen.  You will be the liason between Newman and SGA Finance committee and will work closely coordinating funding with the other Team Leaders.  You should be  organized and take initiative.  You get to deal with lots of $$.  :)

Team Leader of Liturgy: The Mass is the most central part of our Catholic faith, and is the cornerstone of Newman.  You will work with the Liturgy team and make decisions about Mass music, environment, decorations, etc. You will also head up planning other spiritual acitivities like prayer services.

-Liturgy Team: includes musicians, readers, singers, and people to set-up/take-down  for weekly Sunday night Newman Mass.

Team Leader of Public Relations:  (okay, we don’t really have a good title for this one, but read on…) You’ll organize Living Stones, holiday gatherings, freshman welcome events, and communications between the board and the club – announcements, posters, etc. You should have some creativity and be in touch with what you and other Midd kids would like to see in Catholic ministry.

-Public Relations Team: includes webmaster, cooks for Living Stones

Team Leader of Service:  We’re hoping to really push community service opportunities next year.  We’d love to offer a Newman Alternative Feb/Spring Break trip. You should be comfortable networking with Midd (ACE, Chaplain’s Office), St. Mary’s (school and parish), and the larger community (ACCAG) contacts to organize some on-going and one-time service projects.

-Service Team:  includes those who want to help organize service projects, and is the catch-all for anyone who wants to participate in community service.

Please email the Newman Club newmancl@middlebury.edu with the Team Leader Board position and/or team that you are interested in.  We need to hear from those of you interested in being Team Leaders by this FRIDAY APRIL 13.  You can email me with any questions – Marie Lucci mlucci@middlebury.edu

Christ’s Peace,
