Mount Independence Coalition
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The Mount Independence Coalition is now looking for volunteers who will wish to help make Mount Indendence the premier historic site in the state of Vermont.
If you wish to cultivate knowledge and an interest in American and Vermont Revolutionary War history, in historic archaeology, in the ecology and natural resources of the beautiful 300+ acre plateau overlooking Lake Champlain, consider joining the Volunteer Program at the Mount. Descriptions of the various volunteer opportunities follow. All volunteers will be eligible for the comprehensive training program.

Job Descriptions
Coordinator
Develop a Committee to supervise various components of the program. Oversee recruitment of volunteers.
Set up and schedule the training program during May.
Develop the volunteer schedule prior to the Opening of the Center. Plan Volunteer Recognition and Appreciation events.
Some experience desirable but not essential.
Trail Crew
Assist the site trail manager in clearing and maintaining trails, grounds and outdoor structures. For people who enjoy vigorous outdoor activity.
Minimum commitment: 1/2 day per week.
Interpreter
Within the Center: Education program begins in August. Training in July. Volunteers will serve as docents for exciting new school and family programs. Training will include history, archaeology, and working with the artifact cart. For people who enjoy exploring the past and working with young people to make history come alive for them.
Minimum commitment: 4 hours per week.
On the Trails: Guiding individuals and groups, and interpreting the significant archaeological and natural features along the trails. Training in the historic and natural features. For people who enjoy interacting with the public in an outdoor setting.
Minimum commitment: 4 hours per week.
Gift Shop and Membership Table Assistants
Helping to recruit new members and assisting regular staff in inventory and sales in the Gift Shop. These volunteers may take advantage of all training programs and also should enjoy interacting with the public.
Minimum commitment: 4 hours per week, primarily weekends.
Hosts and Greeters
Volunteers from any of the groups above who would be willing to make themselves available for helping to facilitate special events, such as evening lectures.
No minimum commitment required.
Public Relations
People with considerable knowledge of the Mount to speak and show slides before historical societies, civic groups, etc.
Committees of the Board
Members needed for Volunteer, Membership, Fundraising and Public Relations committees.
