| WFT Vol. 5, Ed. 1, Tree #1179 Jean (John) , born abt. 1771 was the son of William Hayes and SarahBozman. Anna Clar k , b. 1775 in VA was the dau. of Francis Clark andRachael Mellon. (SWLA Records, Hebert Vo l 1 pp 129, 273) John, with his parents and their other children, came to the area ofLA that later becam e Acadia Parish. The family was settled in this areaby 1784. It is not clear whether Anna's parents were ever in LA,howeverrecords show that she an d her brothers and sisters were here by1790 andpossibly earlier.( Hebert: SWLA Record s v 1 p p 129-132) John was a Presbyterian and Anna was Lutheran. They were bothmarried by a Catholic prie st in Opelousas, LA on May 18, 1795. They wereboth baptized Catholic the day they were marri ed, renouncing their tieswith Protestantism. One can only guess whether they remained intheC atholic Church. Bapt. records for their children cannot be found inthe area churches excep t for their son Thomas who was bapt. in GrandCoteau,La. (Cath. Ch) at the age of 16. John owned a 400 acre river bank strip of land on Bayou PlaquemineBrulee. (Fontenot: His tory of Acadia Parish Vol 1 p 21, 39) Anna died before John. Their community property was auctioned onOct 30, 1821. The to t a l amnt realized from the sale was $876.00. About six weeks after Anna's estate was settled, John Married FannyMcClelland, d.o.
