As many of you may have noticed, the moqa Web site was not updated much in the spring semester, so here's a breakdown of the events.

The spring semester opened with the biggest party moqa has thrown outside of its usual October and April highlights. It was Gay Club Night in Hepburn Zoo and Lounge, a two-level club featuring a bar downstairs (complete with "mocktail" piña coladas, Sex on the Beach, and more) and some awesome music and decorations in the Zoo. From there we turned our attention to collaborating with the administration on the legendary Larry Kramer's visit to Midd. For those of you unfamiliar with Kramer, he was the Malcolm X of the gay and AIDS rights movements, speaking out with a forceful voice at a time when others were afraid to come out to even their doctors. During his time at Middlebury, he made it a point to speak with moqa and GLEAM members, and to answer questions publicly from a student-faculty panel.

April was GAYpril, and it was a busy month for all. It started out with a visit from the Vermont Freedom to Marry Task Force, which is mobilizing an effort to move beyond civil unions and get full marriage equality in the state. Next was a spirited Gay Sex Panel, that sought to remedy, in part, the general lack of straight people's knowledge about what happens in gay sex, in an entertaining, informal, yet educational setting. Later we handed out our famous, beloved pink triangle cookies, to advertise the rest of the month's events, including the Day of Silence. After Colors Week, in which moqa members wore a different color each day leading up to Saturday, we concluded with the annual Drag Ball in Coltrane Lounge, featuring a special performance from Vermont's favorite drag troupe, the House of LeMay, a special Drag King and Queen contest, and of course, the late-night dance party. The month ended with a special presentation by the Career Services Office's own Jaye Roseborough, "Gay Lives, Straight Jobs." After GAYpril, moqa took the time to do make some changes in the format of our meetings, talk about next year's plans (including a PRIDE parade), and elect our new officers. To cap it all off, Middlebury has recently been selected as one of the 100 Best LGBT campuses in the nation. There you have it, the semester in review.
