What is Jewish life like on campus?
There is a wide array of opportunities to get involved with Jewish life on campus. Shabbat services every Friday are followed by a home-cooked kosher meal, and students are invited to come to one or both and even have the opportunity to cook dinner with friends if they choose. New religious, social, and academic events are constantly being added to the calendar. The annual Bar Mitzvah party is widely attended, and students can enjoy the Israeli film festival, weekly Torah study, academic lectures, Hanukah and Purim parties, Jewish comedian performances, and even a Challah baking workshop. There is also a Modern Hebrew workshop during J-term, a classical Hebrew class, and a Hebrew language table once a week for those who wish to work on their Hebrew skills.
The Jewish Center on campus is a comfortable place for students to gather complete with a kosher kitchen. For students who are interested in bringing specific events to campus, the Hillel board is more than happy to work toward making Jewish life on campus what they want it to be. We have a full time rabbi who acts as our advisor when needed and often attends events sponsored by Hillel. Current freshman have expressed their pleasant surprise and delight with Jewish life on campus.
