FIREFLIES

....a motion poem

Come to me, Love, in the darkness of the night, as shadows fall from the overhanging branches of the wind wrestling trees

Here we are under the blinking of the milky starry waste time is lost in whirling world of fire I am, lost in your firebound galaxy.

But lights blink also here as the fireflies seek to say in searching flight "Lo, darling, I am here, waiting in the darkling night"

Can you see me and have you fear? Are we to be together in this short lifetime flight, a fortnight of flight and then we are gone away?

YES YES she answers I can see the light and you are lovely as a star. We are not alone in the darkness , we have eyes to see a light to guide

I cannot see you in the mist of thin falling rain. Oh are you there still and is my love my love, still, Oh my Love?

I cannot see you........I cannot find your light.......we are lost now love .......Oh my love we are ........LOST .........LOST we are forever ...........forever

notes

This was composed with live scrolling and wasn't read as a poem in static mode until later. The scrolling lines start all together, but since the lines have different lengths, they get out of sync quickly. Since the motion is slow, you can read parts of different lines at will, moving over the range of the poem in a new and surprising mode. Try to read snatches of lines as your eye moves up and down while the words move right to left. Stay with the poem a while, reading and remembering phrases and how they fit together, for a different poetic experience.

But there is a technical problem. The 'marquee' scroller first came from Microsoft with IE 5, and is now deprecated as not formally correct html code. But it works on IE 5/6, on Netscape 7, on iCab for Mac OS 9/10, and is retained for legacy files on Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Firefox. If you find no motion, switch to one of these browsers for a unique experimental piece.

I give the poem below in normal view, but the whole effect of synchronous moving verse is lost. Text is given below but without the motion as the way a moving poem asks to be read, this is just 'another poem'.
