First Officers' Meeting Minutes
Last Updated: 09.20.2007
) Budget
- As of Tuesday, all necessary documentation is in and we should soon be receiving our final unfrozen budget.
- It will likely be a small budget primarily used on a trip to New Hampshire in January so we're going to have to think creatively this semester.
NOTE: Money for speakers and concerts is allocated differently this year and we have to go to separate committees for that money.
2) Website and Email
- The website is current and its address is www.middlebury.edu/~dems
-This is a fluid object and will be subject to much change. At this point it is more of an idea bank than firm plans.
- Note that there is a blog that you are welcome to participate in or add to. I can make people admins if they like. I will hopefully get in the habit of keeping this up to date as well.
-If anyone has fantastic html or css knowledge and is interested in maintaining the website, just let me know.
- We will have a specific College Dems email this year in which we will put our contact list and I will give appropriate people the password and access as soon as I receive it
- The College's own student activities listing of officers, etc. should be up to date by the end of the week
NOTE: If anyone has an old email from the beginning of last year, could you please forward it to me so that I can get a full list of last year's Dems?
3) Welcome Event
- Next Wednesday, same meeting time and place
- Still trying to find an episode of something to show
- Need to rent a projector and screen
- Pizza sticks
- Posters
- Question and Answer session
4) General plans for the year
- Information sessions on a separate candidate/issue to be held at the beginning of each meeting so that we always have something to do and a reason for people to come
- Watching debates at the Grille
- Watching primary returns at the Grille (possible co-event w/ Republicans in January)
- Trip to NH in J-Term (more details later)
-NOTE: At least one more person needs to take the driving test so we can take school vehicles.
- Speakers (possibly via Professor Rosenberg)
- Movies (in the Spring)
- Possibly a concert (in the Spring)
- Be available to co-sponsor various events with other on campus groups as part of the student activism iniative
5) State and County Dems Events
- September 30, 5:00-8:00 at Middlebury American Legion, Silent Auction w/ Peter Welch: Let me know if you're interested in going.
- Future event information to come
6) Miscellaneous Business
- Meetings are going to be bi-monthly
- There are still a handful of t-shirts left - available for $8 from Mimi
- Eventually, we will have a list compiled of all noteworthy Dems events in the area that we should be aware of or interested in attending
- Working w/ VT State Young Dems as well as Burlington (and possibly Dartmouth) Dems -- more information to come
This got kind of long, I apologize, but it's a place to start. Nearly all of this will be brought up at the welcome event because I look forward to any ideas by new members. If you have any suggestions or want clarifications, please let me know and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have any good ideas for something to watch at the first meeting, feel free to suggest it to me. See you next week!
