CRICKET
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man
that's in the side that's in goes
out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until
he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in
and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming
in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man
goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get
him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes
out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all
out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are
out. When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and
both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in,
including those who are not out, that is the end of the game! Confused?

News: Middlebury
College played Dartmouth College at Dartmouth on Sunday April
18th, 2004. After winning the toss, Khurram
Jamali '04 put Dartmouth College in to bat. The Middlebury
bowlers and fielders did well to restrict the Dartmouth batting
lineup in the first 20 overs of the game, with Jonathan
Taft-Dick '04.5, and Niraj Dhungel
'06, picking up two wickets apiece while Wasil
Mohar '06 snapped up 1. Wasil's acrobatic
catch to dismiss a rampaging Gavin seemed to have turned
the game in Middlebury's favor, but Chris smashed 73 in double
quick time to raise the score to 254 in 25 overs. In reply,
Middlebury started well, building a solid opening partnership
of 91 before Jonathan Taft-Dick departed
for 17. Wasil had raced to 88
with 6 sixes, when a flurry of wickets followed with Shahan
Zafar and Wasil, both following
in quick succession. It was upto Khurram,
and Iqbal Sheikh '04, to rescue
the innings and they did so in style before Iqbal also
lost his wicket. With the run rate creeping up towards 14
an over, Khurram responded with
a 29 ball blitzgreig in which he accumulated 68 runs with
5 sixes. Yet, crucially, Khurram lost
his concentration with 2 overs to go and was caught on the
boundary off Niranjan Bose with just 24 runs to go. Middlebury
was eventually dismissed for 232 in 24.3 overs. Apart from Mohar, Taft-Dick and Jamali, Niraj
Dhungel '06 and Sid Rajaram '06 also
chipped in with useful contributions. At the end of the day,
Middlebury was left to rue the last few overs of bowling,
where a number of runs were given up. But the team left with
their heads held high, after putting in an exceptional performance
in their first game of the upcoming spring season. |
