| The Middlebury College Carillon
The Middlebury College Carillon consists of forty-eight bells played from a keyboard in the steeple of Mead Memorial Chapel. The eleven original Middlebury Bells (a chime) were removed from the steeple in the spring of 1985, and were sent to the Paccard-Fonderie des Cloches in Annecy, France, along with twenty-five bells from the Atlantic United Methodist Church in Quincy, Massachusetts. There, twenty-one bells were retuned, fifteen were recast, and twelve new bells were cast to complete the new carillon. The bells were returned to Middlebury in late April, and, under the direction of French and American technicians, the carillon and keyboard were installed in the Chapel steeple during May of 1986. The carillon was a gift of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, presented to Middlebury College by Allan R. Dragone '50 and Jane B. Dragone in 1985. |
