Russian 412
Spring 1999

The aim of this course is to enhance your Russian language skills based on content drawn from topics in 20th century Russia. This is a student centered course. Each of you will make a significant contribution to the overall picture of Russia which emerges. The course is also multi-media based: we will draw not only on text and documents, but on photos, graphics, paintings, film and audio clips. By the end of the course you will have assembled collectively a hypertext vision of Russian Culture over the past ninety nine years

As a general guide Tuesday’s class will consist of five minute oral presentations in Russian (with accompanying typewritten text). You will also share your own weekly web page with links to writers, artists, composers, other cultural and historical figures of the decade. Films, audio clips and print materials will be examined. Each class will end with a brief look ahead at the next decade along with an identification of key people and events as a focus for the following week’s work.
