This course has several components&emdash;all of which are intended to improve your knowledge of the Russian language and people.
Each morning you will have one hour of language practice-similar to the fall semester, you will have assignments due for the next day. Attendance is mandatory. This portion of the course counts for 50% of your grade. There is a separate schedule with those assignments.
The second half of the course is a broad overview of Russian culture. Three days a week there will be presentations on aspects of what every educated Russian knows. On Thursdays you will view a portion of a Russian film&emdash;as an introduction to the visual representation of Russian culture.
There is a series of web based assignments related to Russian culture due on specific dates. Choose a topic on the sign up sheets and note down your topic and the due date. See Themes attachment for specific instructions.
You will also have a reading assignment each evening in English of classical Russian literature. You will have a written assignment based on that reading for each class. See literature schedule for the specific assignments.
Your culture and literature work will be assembled both electronically and in hard copy to form a portfolio: the electronic version, presumably a set of html documents with links to other pages as well as to files; print outs of everything you have done, neatly arranged in a three ring binder.
The culture/literature portion of the course, including attendance and on time completion of all assignments counts for the remaining 50% of your grade.

The culture/literature portion of the course, including attendance and on time completion of all assignments counts for the remaining 50% of your grade.
As is customary, your attendance and participation are expected at every class. Written work is due when assigned. I expect nothing less than full participation, and excellent work all the time and on time. That level of performance deserves an "A." Anything short of the above will be graded accordingly.
