Environmental Council
Representative Information
I. Guidelines for Appointment of Members
Members are appointed to the Environmental Council as follows:
- Director of Environmental Affairs and Planning shall automatically be Chair.
- Environmental Coordinator shall automatically be Vice-Chair and Project Coordinator.
- The College President may appoint a member of the College community to serve as co-chair of the Council.
- Seven student representatives shall be appointed by the Student Government Association, through their appointment process in the fall. The EC shall supply the SGA with criteria, students shall apply to the SGA, and an EC representative shall sit on the interviewing committee without a vote.
- Three staff representatives shall be appointed by the Staff Council during the summer. The EC shall supply the SC with criteria and recommendations and staff will apply to the SC during the summer.
- Three faculty representatives shall be appointed by the Faculty Council Committee on Committees during in the spring for the following year. The EC will supply the Faculty Council with criteria and recommendations.
The EC membership shall thus total 15 (16)
II. Guidelines for Selecting Representatives:
Students: (The slate of students appointed to the Council should attempt to have the following)
- No automatic re-appointments, but former members may re-apply and experience on the Council is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to mission and goals of council.
- Willingness to commit significant amounts of time to council programs and projects.
- Representation from EQ, Ecology House, other campus environmental groups.
- SGA representation.
- "Campus" representation.
- Various classes represented.
- Various residence halls represented.
- Leadership potential.
- At least 2 new student members each year.
TO APPLY: Contact the Student Government Association in the beginning of the fall semester. If openings occur mid-year, there may be opportunities to apply again in December or January.
Staff: (The slate of staff appointed to the Council should attempt to have the following)
- No automatic re-appointments, but former members may re-apply and experience on the Council is considered an asset.
- Representation from different sectors of the College. (i.e. Dining, Facilities, Administrative Depts.)
- Demonstrated commitment to mission and goals of council.
- Willingness to commit significant amounts of time to council programs and projects.
TO APPLY: Contact the Staff Council during the summer. If openings occur mid-year, there may be opportunities to apply again in December or January.
Faculty: (The slate of faculty appointed to the Council should attempt to have the following)
- No automatic re-appointments, but former members may re-apply and experience on the Council is considered an asset.
- Representation from different departments.
- It is not required that the faculty member be affiliated with Environmental Studies.
- Demonstrated commitment to mission and goals of council.
- Willingness to commit significant amounts of time to council programs and projects.
TO APPLY: Contact the Faculty Council Committee on Committees in the spring. If openings occur mid-year, there may be opportunities to apply again in December or January.
